Thailand
Ruth is back from Thailand!!
On the whole, the trip was gratifying, though there were times whereby I got pretty fed up with myself for not being able to find my way to my destinations. Nonetheless, I still had lotsa fun during the trip.
Somehow, I felt that the stuff in Thailand aint as cheap as before. Still, they are cheaper as compared to Singapore. I thought I could spend like a king in Bangkok which in fact was contrary. The first 2 days, I didn't have to ponder much before making a purchase. As the days went by, (haha), I had to think twice or trice. Anyway, I was pretty much satisfied with my purchases. I bought a variety of merchandises. Inner beauty, clothes, accessories, gem, bag, shoes, shirts and other miscellaneous stuff... A little of each. I didn't go crazy by buying alot of clothes. It's true that the clothes are really cheap, but the quality aint exactly very good. I aint saying there was no nice clothes. In fact, there were! However, the price would be slightly more expensive (still cheaper than Singapore!). They cost about 500 Baht and above. None of my clothes went beyond 350 Baht. LOL
The exchange rate is 1 Sing : 22.8 Baht. The exchange rate is better in Thailand. 1 Sing : 23 baht approximately. It fluctuates.
For convenient sake, we simply hopped into a car that came up to us right after we stepped out of the airport. As it was the first time we traveled on our own, we did not know the cost of the taxi fare. It was shockingly expensive (after comparing with Na's); 900 Baht from Airport to my hotel. Mine was a limousine after all.
We stayed in Grand Watergate Hotel; a new hotel. For the price we paid, I would say that the service was great. They would even help us get a cab and even making sure that the cab driver charged us according to the meter. They serve breakfast buffet, but there was much variety to choose. The rate was about 35 Sing dollars (can't remember).
The hotel is situated in the back alley, but it's very near to Pratunum and Platimum Mall. Strategically good location indeed. Both are walking distance from my hotel. Due to close distance, most of the cab drivers didn't want to take us. The cab drivers are really bad!
Suan Lum night market
It's a must-to-go night market. The place is really huge, similar to JJ market, just that it's not as packed & messy. I heard that it will be closing down soon and I wonder when. It is really a pity because among all the shopping places that I went to, I like Suan Lum night market the most. For unique fashion, go to Section DG where they sell unique clothing that comes in 1 or 2 pieces. That was what my coach said. haha. He likes shopping. Other than fashion, section DG sells furnitures, souvenirs, etc but mainly clothings. I recommend Madame Flamingo to shoes lovers. The shop owner who is also the designer of the shoes sold in that shop studied shoes making back in Italy. She's a thai though who speaks good english. Her shoes are slightly more expensive. I bought a pair which costs 700 Baht. I was willing to pay that amount because you can't find these shoes elsewhere.
Other shopping places: Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, MBK, Silom night market.
Opposite Siam Paragon and Siam Discovery, there are roadside stalls as well. In my opinion, Siam seems to be upper end. MBK was a disappointment though, at least to me. I did my hair there and nothing else. Nothing to buy.
There was another night market that we went to but I do not know the name cos my dear coach brought us there. It was a good thing we have thai friends who were so willing to bring us around. The grand palace was magnificent. (after verifying with my dear coach, the name of the night market is Sa Pan Put and it's not grand palace, it's royal palace)
On Sat night, we went for movie. A Horror movie! It was so traumatizing that the imagines still linger in my mind. I am a coward cos I am still scared. Argh! I had difficulties sleeping since that night.
Wanna know about the story?? hahaha.
I met quite a number of NTU students in Bangkok. On the last day, I saw Liyee and coincidently, we were on the same flight. :)
Now, I am seriously looking forward to my Tokyo cum Sendai trip! Yeah, let's train hard and put up a good show in YOYOGI!!!!
